1. Einleitung

The Retevis RT3S is a versatile DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) digital walkie talkie designed for reliable and efficient communication. 2. Einrichtung

2.1 Packungsinhalt

Before using your RT3S, please ensure all items are present in the package:

2.2 Antennenanschluss

To attach the antenna, align the SMA-M connector on the antenna with the corresponding port on top of the radio. Rotate clockwise until securely fastened. Ensure a firm connection for optimal signal performance.

2.3 Einlegen und Laden der Batterie

Install the provided 2000mAh Li-ion battery by aligning it with the battery compartment on the back of the radio and sliding it into place until it clicks. To charge, place the radio in the charging cradle and connect the adapter to a power source. The recommended charging time is 5 hours or less.

2.4 Programming Software and Firmware

The RT3S radio can be customized and updated using programming software and firmware. It supports two main firmware types: one for 120,000 digital contacts (CSV) and another for recording (REC). The factory default firmware now supports 120,000 digital contacts. If you require the recording function, please contact customer service for the appropriate firmware.

Ensure you select the correct firmware version (CSV for contacts, REC for recording, and GPS/non-GPS specific versions). All software is compatible with Windows systems.

2.5 Unlocking Frequency (US Standard Chargers)

For RT3S units with US standard chargers, the frequency may be factory-locked to 150-160 MHz and 450-460 MHz to comply with regulations. To unlock the full frequency range:

  1. Schalten Sie das Radio aus.
  2. Simultaneously press and hold the two side keys (above and below the PTT button).
  3. While holding the side keys, turn on the radio.
  4. The radio will now operate on the standard frequency ranges.

3. Bedienungsanleitung

3.1 Grundlegende Bedienelemente

  • Ein-/Ausschalten und Lautstärke: Rotate the top-right knob to turn the radio on/off and adjust the volume.
  • Kanalauswahl: Rotate the top-left knob to select channels.
  • PTT-Taste (Push-to-Talk): Zum Senden gedrückt halten, zum Empfangen loslassen.
  • Seitliche Tasten: Two definable side keys can be customized as hotkeys for one-touch access to various functions.
  • Speaker Mic/Headset/Programming Port: Compatible with Kenwood 2-pin accessories.

3.2 VFO Mode Operation

VFO (Variable Frequency Oscillator) mode allows for manual frequency entry and direct editing of radio parameters.

To enter VFO mode:

  1. Drücken Sie die Speisekarte Taste.

3.3 Anrufoptionen

The RT3S supports various call types, which need to be programmed via software:

  • Privater Anruf: Initiates a call to a specific person only.
  • Gruppenanruf: Initiates a call to a predefined group of users.
  • Alle Anrufe: Broadcasts a call to all users on the same channel or frequency.

3.4 Group Call Match (Promiscuous)

This function allows you to listen to all groups without needing to preset or verify group call contacts. It is referred to as "Group call match" or "Private call match" in the RT3S.

3.5 Textnachrichten

The RT3S supports Short Message Service (SMS) with the following features:

  • Maximum message length: 144 characters.
  • Supports up to 50 prefabricated text messages.
  • Stores up to 50 most recently sent messages (oldest messages are replaced when storage is full).

3.6 Aufnahmefunktion

The recording function is available only in digital mode:

  • Records for more than 8 hours with 3000 channels and 10000 contacts.
  • Each digital call is recorded and stored in the Call Log submenu when the function is active.
  • Recordings can be checked and played back from the radio.

3.7 GPS and APRS Function (Optional)

For RT3S models with GPS, these features provide location-based services:

  • GPS-Ortung: Displays latitude, longitude, altitude, and bearing.
  • APRS (Automatic Packet Report System): Enables automatic report positioning and tracking. Requires GPS functionality and a hotspot tool for normal operation.
  • You can set a GPS Report Interval to send GPS information at predefined intervals.

3.8 VOX-Funktion

The VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) function allows for hands-free communication. When enabled, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice, making communication easier and without delay.

3.9-Scannen

The RT3S supports channel scanning. To use this feature, you must first add the desired channels into a scan list using the programming software. The radio will then scan the channels within that list.

4. Wartung

4.1 Batteriepflege

To prolong battery life, avoid overcharging. The recommended charging time is 5 hours or less. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.

4.2 Firmware-Updates

Retevis provides lifelong firmware upgrade and technical support. Regularly check the official website for the latest firmware versions to ensure optimal performance and access to new features. Refer to Section 2.4 for download links and instructions.

5. Fehlerbehebung

5.1 Abnormal Frequency Display

If the frequency display appears abnormal:

  1. Schalten Sie das Radio aus.
  2. Simultaneously press and hold the two side keys (above and below the PTT).
  3. While holding the side keys, turn on the radio. The display should now be normal.

5.2 Repeater Communication Issues

If the RT3S cannot communicate normally when connected to a repeater on a digital channel (where transmit and receive frequencies differ), ensure that a valid Contact ID is used. The default Contact ID 9990 is not available in repeater mode.

5.3 Zurücksetzen des Radios

To reset the RT3S radio to its factory settings, you will need the original codeplug file. Please contact Retevis customer service to obtain this file. Once you have the file, you can use the programming software to read the codeplug file and write it to your radio.
