Microshift M35

Microshift Mezzo M35 Rear Derailleur Instruction Manual

For 7, 8, and 9-Speed Drivetrains

1. Einleitung

Thank you for choosing the Microshift Mezzo M35 Rear Derailleur. This component is engineered for reliable and precise shifting performance on 7, 8, and 9-speed mountain and road bicycle systems. Featuring a long cage design, it accommodates a wide range of gear ratios, including larger cogs up to 34 teeth. The M35 combines a weight-saving aluminum bracket body with a durable steel pulley cage, ensuring longevity and consistent operation.

2. Sicherheitshinweise

  • Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection, when installing or adjusting bicycle components.
  • Wenn Sie sich bezüglich der Installations- oder Einstellvorgänge unsicher sind, wenden Sie sich an einen professionellen Fahrradmechaniker.
  • Ensure all bolts are tightened to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications to prevent component failure.
  • Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts, especially the chain and derailleur pulleys, during operation and adjustment.

4. Einrichtung und Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. This derailleur is designed for a standard 10x1 rear derailleur mount.

4.1 Montage des Schaltwerks

  1. Ensure your bicycle frame has a clean and undamaged derailleur hanger.
  2. Thread the derailleur's mounting bolt into the derailleur hanger. Tighten securely, typically to 8-10 Nm, but always refer to your frame or derailleur hanger manufacturer's specifications.

4.2 Chain Installation and Routing

  1. Route the bicycle chain through the derailleur. The chain should pass over the upper pulley, then under the lower pulley. Ensure the chain is not twisted.
  2. Connect the chain according to the chain manufacturer's instructions.

4.3 Cable Attachment

  1. Shift the rear shifter to the highest gear (smallest cog position).
  2. Route the shift cable through the cable housing and into the derailleur's cable fixing bolt.
  3. Pull the cable taut and tighten the cable fixing bolt. Do not overtighten.

4.4 Einstellung der Anschlagschraube

Limit screws prevent the derailleur from shifting the chain off the smallest or largest cog.

  • Hochgrenzschraube (H): This screw controls the derailleur's inward movement towards the smallest cog. With the chain on the smallest cog, adjust the H-screw so that the upper pulley is directly aligned with the smallest cog. The chain should run smoothly without rubbing.
  • Untere Begrenzungsschraube (L): This screw controls the derailleur's outward movement towards the largest cog. Shift the chain to the largest cog. Adjust the L-screw so that the upper pulley is directly aligned with the largest cog. The chain should run smoothly without rubbing.

4.5 B-Tension Adjustment

The B-tension screw adjusts the gap between the upper derailleur pulley and the largest cog. This gap should be sufficient to prevent the pulley from rubbing the cog, typically 5-6mm.

  1. Shift the chain onto the largest cog on the cassette and the smallest chainring on the crankset.
  2. Adjust the B-tension screw (located on the derailleur hanger body) until there is an appropriate gap between the upper pulley and the largest cog.

5. Bedienungsanleitung

The Microshift Mezzo M35 Rear Derailleur works in conjunction with your bicycle's rear shifter to change gears. When you actuate the shifter, the cable tension changes, causing the derailleur to move laterally and guide the chain to a different cog on the cassette.

  • Um zu einem zu wechseln größeres Zahnrad (easier gear), typically you will press a lever or button that releases cable tension.
  • Um zu einem zu wechseln kleineres Zahnrad (harder gear), typically you will press a lever or button that pulls the cable, increasing-Spannung.
  • Always shift while pedaling forward with moderate pressure. Avoid shifting under heavy load or while stationary to prevent damage to the drivetrain components.

6. Wartung

Regular maintenance will extend the life and ensure the smooth operation of your Microshift Mezzo M35 Rear Derailleur.

6.1 Reinigung

  • Periodically clean the derailleur, especially the pulleys, to remove dirt, grime, and old lubricant. Use a degreaser specifically designed for bicycle components.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water and dry completely after cleaning.

6.2 Schmierung

  • After cleaning, apply a small amount of bicycle-specific lubricant to the pivot points of the derailleur and the pulley bearings.
  • Lubricate your chain regularly according to the chain lubricant manufacturer's instructions.

6.3 Inspektion

  • Regularly inspect the derailleur for any signs of damage, bending, or excessive wear, particularly on the pulley wheels.
  • Check the derailleur hanger for alignment. A bent hanger can cause poor shifting performance.
  • Ensure all bolts, especially the mounting bolt and cable fixing bolt, are tight.

7. Fehlerbehebung

If you experience shifting issues, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • Slow or Hesitant Shifting: Check cable tension. If shifting to smaller cogs is slow, the cable might be too loose (add tension with barrel adjuster). If shifting to larger cogs is slow, the cable might be too tight (release tension). Also, check for dirty or worn cable housing.
  • Chain Rubbing on Derailleur Cage: This often indicates incorrect limit screw adjustment or a bent derailleur hanger. Re-adjust limit screws or check hanger alignment.
  • Chain Falling Off Cogs: This is typically a limit screw issue. Adjust the H or L screw as necessary to prevent the chain from over-shifting.
  • Noisy Drivetrain: Ensure the chain and derailleur pulleys are clean and adequately lubricated. Check B-tension adjustment to ensure proper clearance between the upper pulley and the cassette cogs.

Bei anhaltenden Problemen sollten Sie einen professionellen Fahrradmechaniker konsultieren.
